Hello everyone! After reading through a lot of the journals and the amazing transformations, I decided to start my own! He’re a little background on me…
I recently got serious about my health in March 2009 after tipping the scales at 262lbs. I’m a 28 year old male, 5’11” and somewhere between an Mesomorph and Endomorph. I joined 24 Hour Fitness here in San Diego and did a fitness eval a few days after joining. I hadn’t stepped on the scale for quite a long time for fear of what it would say, but sucked it up and took the first step to better fitness and quality of life. My body fat was calculated a 32%. A real wakeup call after being an athlete all through high school and having a body fat % between 10-15% depending what sport I was in at the time. I competed at a high level through high school in baseball, football and wrestling and at my lowest, I was 10% body fat while wrestling, bulked up during football season and was somewhere inbetween during baseball season. I always hovered around 175-190lbs in the last 2 years of high school.
Over the last 6 weeks, I have changed my diet completely using tips from Gravityhomer’s fat loss guide and am now close to a 40/40/20 diet at about 1800 cal/day. Since March I have lost about 15lbs and am down to 245-247lbs depending on the time of day, etc. My goal is to get back down to roughly 12% body fat, get stronger, healthier and look better. I’d like to be about 200-210lbs by the end of this year, but would be fine if I weighed more but was still healthy and my body fat is down in the low teens.
I just changed my workout program to StrongLifts 5×5 (started last night) on Mon/Wed/Fri and will be doing LISS cardio on Tues/Thurs/Sat with Sunday off. Probably switching to HIIT in a few weeks after I get some base cardio health going. I’ll be using this journal to catalog my process and hopefully interact with you all during it!
There are a lot of emotional issues I am dealing with in conjunction with my weight gain (lack of confidence and self worth, body image issues, mild depression and some social anxiety stemming from body image issues), but a lot of those issues are slowly fading away as my body fat decreases, strength increases and I start to feel and look better! I am seeing a therapist to help sort through all of these feelings and thoughts as well.
The goal is to gain strength and cut body fat, but I don’t necessarily want to gain mass. I’d like to be cut not huge (right now anyways). I guess my goal is to have the strength and cut definition of Ryan Reynolds (Blade Trinity), but might not be able to acheive that since he is more of a mesomorph than I am.
I’ll be posting pictures along the way as well as measurements, body fat %, weight, etc.
Thanks for coming along on the ride during my journey to better physical and (hopefully) mental health!!
