When discussion of squat depth occurs, there are often lifters who mention the hip joint being below parallel; the femur being parallel; the hamstring; etc. Of course, none of these are part of the accepted definitions of squat depth in any federation. This begs the question of whether lifters actually know what is proper squat depth? Has the expectation of how deep one has to go become muddled with an improper understanding of exactly is proper depth?

At [http://b2.boards2go.com/boards/board.cgi?action=read&id=1213291174&user=tfannon Outlaws], a posters believes that many don’t know what depth is: ”I would say at this point the majority of lifters really don’t understand what the rules mean. They think ”parallel” means the thigh is parallel to the floor. I’d have to say the lifters who have joined the sport over the last 8-10 years really have no idea what the rules mean.
